FAQs

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup (tattoo) that will partially or fully conceal missing hair with the appearance of a fuller, defined eyebrow.

It involves the insertion of ink into the skin through delicate strokes to mimic natural hair growth to create natural looking eyebrows and the best

eyebrow shape for your face.

How long is the procedure?

Allow for a window of up to 3 hours for your appointment. This involves time for paperwork and consent forms, extensive brow mapping to draw on your best shape, color matching, microblading and then going over post-care procedures.

Does it hurt?

There is some slight discomfort involved, however, because we use a lidocaine 5% topical cream prior to the procedure and then again throughout the procedure it keeps any discomfort to a minimum. Microblading is done with a very small, sharp instrument to create fine hair stroke cuts in the skin where pigment is deposited. It is very different from a traditional tattoo which is done with a tattoo gun. Clients have stated that the worst part for them is mainly the sound of scraping during the procedure, so if it helps you, feel free to bring headphones and listen to your favorite music or podcast during your procedure!

How long does it last?

Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo that can last anywhere from 12-18 months. As the microblading fades over time, a touch up is usually required to keep the color vibrant and refresh hair strokes that may have faded. Touch-up schedule varies from person to person, depending on their skin type, environment, lifestyle and what products they use. Typically touch-ups are done once per year after the initial appointment.

Who is a good candidate?

Microblading is a great option for most people, whether you have full brows but are lacking a defined shape, sparse or missing patches of hair or suffer from a condition that has resulted in total loss of eyebrow hair. We will work together to create the most beautiful, natural results for your specific face and situation.

Who is not a good candidate?

While Microblading is safe for most, there are some pre-exisiting conditions and scenarios that it might not be the best fit for you. Some of these include:

  • People taking blood thinners

  • Those with a history of Keloid scarring

  • Women who are pregnant or nursing

  • Some people with auto-immune disorders

  • Individuals who have taken Accutane within the last year

  • Those with severe acne, sunburn or Psoriasis around the eyebrow area

Retinol/Retin-A/Vitamin A/Fish Oils need to be stopped at least 2 weeks prior to an appointment. Please consult with your physician first if you fall into any of the categories above as you may need to bring a signed approval.

Do not receive any Botox within 2 weeks of your appointment.

If you have had prior permanent makeup or microblading and are considering options for covering past work a consult will be required to booking your appointment. Anyone with these conditions or medications that cause them to bleed easily, please call to discuss.

Risks

As with any tattoo service, there are always risks involved.

The following are the primary complications that can result from tattooing:

  • Infection

  • Removal problems

  • Allergic reactions to the ink or products used

  • Granulomas (these are nodules that may form around material that the body perceives as foreign, such as particles of tattoo pigment)

  • Keloid formation (keloids are scars that grow beyond normal boundaries)

  • MRI Complications

Pre-Care

Clients must be off Retin-A, Renova, or any related product for 30 days before the procedure. You must stop using fish oil and any krill oil one month before the procedure. Must be off of Accutane for one year before the procedure.

Avoid 48 hours prior to Microblading unless medically necessary:

  • Aspirin, Motrin or similar products (Tylenol and Ibuprofen are okay)

  • Alcohol

  • Niacin and Vitamin E

  • Ginkgo Biloba, St. John's Wort or Evening Primrose Oil

  • Sunburns

  • Marijuana or CBD Products

Premenstrual clients may be more sensitive during the procedure.

If a condition requires antibiotics prior to seeing the Dentist, check with your Doctor to see if it is recommended for Microblading as well.

Only use new makeup that may come in contact with the area after applications, in order to prevent secondary infections by being exposed to bacteria.

Do not book your Microblading appointment before any major events. Your brows will take some time to heal and may appear darker, flaking and skin redness during the healing process. Make sure to give yourself at least 30 days prior to a major even to have your Microblading procedure to allow enough time for healing so your brows look their best!

After-Care

Do not be alarmed if your brows look a little funky initially!

Your brows will go through a healing process after your procedure and will appear darker for the first few days, then lighter for a few days and then finally beautifully healed. This is due to the ink being deposited in the top layers of your skin and then as the skin heals a new, thin layer heals over the ink before the ink finally rests towards the surface of your skin again, resulting in beautifully natural brows.

After your Microblading appointment you may notice:

  • Dryness, flakiness and itching

  • Mild tenderness, redness or mild bruising around the area

After your appointment follow these guidelines to ensure proper healing:

  • Keep your brows dry for the first 5 days (yes you can shower, just avoid water flowing directly onto your brows)

  • Morning and Evening softly clean your brows with a gentle cleanser (such as CeraVe)

  • Apply A&D Ointment or Aquaphor 2x/day after cleansing

  • Do not scratch, rub or pick the area (we know it is itchy! Hang in there! It will be worth it!)

  • Do not apply makeup on or around the area for 72 hours

  • No tanning for three weeks

  • No swimming in chlorine or salt water until the site is completely healed

  • Always wear sunblock (15+) - Too much sun will cause your brows to fade quicker

Seek medical attention if the area becomes infected, painful, increased redness or hot to the touch, or if you develop a fever shortly after the procedure. Always consult with a licensed physician if you suspect you may be having an allergic reaction or infection after your procedure.

After your initial appointment, you will return for a 4 week touch up. This appointment is to evaluate how the color is holding, add any new microblading lines to places that may not have taken and/or add soft tap shading to darken color in areas that appear sparse.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to call or text me! I am here for you no matter how silly you might think your question is!
